LIONEL (O.S.)

LIONEL (O.S.)
Summa folks prays on gettin’ all
they’s things laid, end o’ the day.
Summa folks goes on like they’s
nothin’ but blessed. But Lord
knows falsin’ be sin—lyin’…be
sin. So why’s folks lie ’bout layin’—
’bout “blessed”? Mayhaps they
knows somethin’ we ain’t. Maybe’s
‘s’no lord—not one, malevolent or
ben-. Not sayin’ ‘s’way it is—sayin’
‘s’way man might think. ‘N’if that’s
how they did, could you say them’s
wrong?

I ain’t up here to say who’s laid or
who’s ain’t—or whether they’s
bound to at all. All I can offer way
up here in Lord’s stead is words
worth ponderin’ on, day’s end.
(a beat)
Let’s pray.
